The task of the Social, Economic and Regional LRI is to plan, strengthen and develop, initiate cooperation, and coordinate and manage research administration, community service and non-degree training related to global and local issues that can be raised to a global context in the fields of social sciences, economics, and territorial/regional/landscape studies.

Center for Regional Planning and Development Studies

The Center for Regional Systems Analysis, Planning and Development (CrestPent), or Pusat Pengkajian Perencanaan dan Pengembangan Wilayah (P4W), evolved from a research group focusing on regional development and planning at IPB University. The center comprises four research divisions that work collaboratively to achieve the goal of sustainable regional development: the Regional Economics and Spatial Planning Division, the Community Development Division, the Regional Information Systems Division, and the Geospatial Information and Technology Division for Integrative and Smart Agriculture.

The Center for Agrarian Studies (PSA) at IPB University is a research institute that focuses on the dynamics of ownership, control, and community access—particularly in rural areas—to agrarian resources. PSA carries out several main tasks and functions, including the development of agrarian studies, policy analysis, research collaboration, and capacity building in the fields of agrarian affairs and rural development.

Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CARE)

The Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution (CARE) is one of the research centers under the International Research Institute of IPB University, with a vision to become a leading center for research and development in conflict resolution both in Indonesia and at the international level. This vision aims to contribute to the creation of an intelligent, independent, prosperous, civilized, and just society. In carrying out its role, CARE conducts research and develops various alternative models for managing potential conflicts related to natural and human resources, encompassing aspects of prevention, conflict resolution, post-conflict rehabilitation, and community empowerment. In addition, CARE contributes to the evaluation and formulation of equitable and empowering regional and national development policy regulations.

The scope of CARE’s activities includes developing management systems for handling and resolving social conflicts across various community levels—both horizontal and vertical—through Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) approaches such as advocacy, negotiation, arbitration, and mediation. CARE also plays a role in developing comprehensive crisis management and disaster response strategies in different regions, aimed at strengthening social resilience and supporting sustainable development.

The Center for Islamic Business and Economic Studies (CIBEST) is a research institution that focuses on the development of Islamic business and economics through an interdisciplinary approach. Currently, CIBEST consists of four divisions: the Islamic Economics and Finance Division, the Halal Industry Management Division, the Islamic Agribusiness Division, and the Islamic Philanthropy Division. Emphasizing sustainability and Islamic values, CIBEST is committed to supporting sustainable economic development.

In carrying out its mission, CIBEST collaborates with various institutions such as the National Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KNEKS), the Regional Committee for Islamic Economy and Finance (KDEKS), Bank Indonesia (BI), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), the ASBISINDO Sharia Rural Bank Division (BPRS), BAZNAS, Menara Syariah, and other related organizations. These collaborations strengthen CIBEST’s capacity to make significant contributions to the advancement of Islamic economics both in Indonesia and globally.

International Center for Applied Economics and Finance (INTERCAFE)

The International Center for Applied Finance and Economics (InterCAFE) is a research center under the International Research Institute of IPB University that focuses on applied economics and finance. InterCAFE envisions becoming an internationally recognized research center in the field of applied economics and finance, integrating various disciplines in a comprehensive manner to provide tangible benefits for development. In pursuing this vision, InterCAFE’s mission is to conduct research in applied economics and finance, with a primary focus on developing countries (emerging markets), and to develop economic and financial models that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and the formulation of effective economic policies.

The Center for Agricultural and Rural Development Studies (PSP3) at IPB University is a research institute established in 1973, focusing on the development of agricultural socio-economics and the empowerment of rural communities. PSP3 envisions becoming a leading research center in agricultural social and economic studies with a strong commitment to improving the welfare of farmers and rural communities. To realize this vision, PSP3 carries out various missions, including developing academic studies in agricultural socio-economics oriented toward enhancing rural welfare; formulating innovative ideas in the fields of agricultural socio-economics, agrarian studies, gender, and poverty alleviation; and supporting community empowerment efforts to improve the social well-being of farmers and rural populations. In addition, PSP3 actively contributes to the advancement of knowledge in agricultural socio-economics and broader development studies.

Center for Gender and Child Studies

The Center for Gender and Child Studies (PKGA) at IPB University is a research center focused on research, policy development, and advocacy in the areas of gender, children, and family. Its main activities include interdisciplinary research, community training and education, institutional capacity building, and the development of inclusive social innovations. The center’s studies are directed toward supporting gender-responsive and child-friendly sustainable development, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, marine science, and tropical biosciences. In addition, PKGA actively builds national and global collaboration networks to expand the scientific and social impact of its research outcomes.

 

PKGA envisions becoming a leading center at both the national and international levels in gender and child studies, contributing to the development of science, technology, and policy based on the values of social justice and sustainability, to strengthen national dignity through inclusive and gender-equitable development. To realize this vision, PKGA carries out several missions: developing multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary research on gender and child issues relevant to agricultural, marine, and tropical bioscience development; initiating research-based policy recommendations and advocacy that promote gender equality and child protection; strengthening national and international collaboration networks in research, education, and community engagement related to gender and child studies; and promoting inclusive social innovation and family- and community-based technopreneurship to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
