The International Research Institute for Advanced Technology (LRI-TM) is one of the research institutions at IPB University that focuses on the development and application of advanced technology in various fields.

Duties and Functions of LRI Advanced Technology:

Research and Development (R&D): Conducting innovative research in the field of advanced technology to produce solutions that can be applied in the agriculture, fisheries, and marine sectors.

Inter-Institutional Collaboration: Collaborating with other research institutions, both inside and outside IPB, to map research priorities and identify research gaps in the marine and climate change sectors.

Technology Implementation: Monitoring research initiatives and the application of technology such as cold rooms in the cold supply chain, in collaboration with industry partners and international institutions.

Capacity Building: Organizing workshops, seminars, and focus group discussions to strengthen regional networks and support the development of science and technology.

Through these various functions, LRI-TM plays an important role in encouraging technological innovation and its application to support sustainable development in Indonesia.

Center for Biotechnology (Biotech Center)

The IPB Biotech Center was originally part of the Center for Resource and Environmental Management Studies (Pusdi PSL), now the Bogor Agricultural University Environmental Research Center (PPLH IPB) which was founded in 1976. Since then, there have been several restructurings of the study center units at IPB where biotechnology science was separated from the previous Center to become the Center for Biological Resources & Biotechnology Research (PPSHB) since 1992.

Structurally, PPSHB is one of the research centers under the coordination of the IPB Research and Community Service Institute (LPPM) according to the Decree of the Minister of P&K No. 0435/O/1992 concerning the IPB Statute and the Decree of the IPB Rector No. 116/Um/1994. Furthermore, PPSHB IPB then changed its name to the Biotechnology Center or Biotech Center IPB since 2021.

In 2023, there was a structural restructuring of the organization where LPPM IPB was replaced by several Directorates. The Biotechnology Center or Biotech Center IPB was then moved under the auspices of the Advanced Technology International Research Institute (LRI-TM) IPB. Under LRI-TM IPB biotech center IPB is expected to become a center of study or center of excellence in biotechnology science and development of biotechnology products especially to answer national and international issues in the fields of agriculture and the environment.

In 1986, the Postgraduate Program of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology, IPB received a grant from the Government of Japan through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) with the aim of developing and strengthening the postgraduate program in the field of Agricultural Engineering Science. This project was followed by a new project, namely Technical Cooperation between the Directorate General of Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti) and Higher Education (Ditjen Dikti) and JICA on Academic Development of Postgraduate Programs in the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology (ADAET) Project-JTA-9(a)-132 for five years (1988-1993), with the aim of strengthening the Postgraduate Postgraduate Program in the field of agricultural engineering. The activities carried out in this project are research, seminars, domestic training, overseas training, Assignment of experts from Japan, development of infrastructure models, etc. To maintain the activities that have been pioneered and implemented during the ADAET Project, IPB established CREATA as one of the research centers under the Institute for Research and Community Empowerment through Rector’s Decree No. 101/Um/1994, which was later refined by Rector’s Decree No. 053/Um/1995.

In 1996, CREATA received a grant to develop and run a center unit (Center Grant) from the URGE Project (University Research for Postgraduate Education), Directorate General of Higher Education, Ministry of National Education, for three years. With this center grant, CREATA can maintain the continuation of activities that have been initiated through the ADAET Project, especially in terms of improving staff competency, especially in teaching and research activities carried out at the postgraduate level. postgraduate in the Agricultural Engineering Study Program.

Through the improvement of research facilities and improvement of staff competency, CREATA has the capability to become a reliable engineering-based research center and conduct various high-quality research activities and conduct various research activities involving many postgraduate students because they conduct their own research projects for the completion of their studies.

Research Center for Oil Palm

The IPB University Palm Oil Study Center was established as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding between IPB and GAPKI (Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association) No. 092/IT3/HK 01/2019 dated September 10, 2019 concerning the Tridharma Cooperation of Higher Education in the Development of Sustainable Palm Oil Plantations and Industries.

A study center based on the most superior commodities in the agricultural sector in terms of plantation area, number of workers involved, contribution to exports and GDP, variety of derivative products, etc. Establishing a Palm Oil Study Center which is expected to be able to coordinate comprehensive research and studies on palm oil from various disciplines at IPB and disseminate the results of these research and studies to the public and government.

Primate Animal Study Center, Institute for Research and Community Service-Bogor Agricultural University (PSSP, LPPM-IPB) carries out various activities to implement its vision and mission. In accordance with the Rector’s Decree Number 080/C/1990 which has established PSSP LPPM IPB. This study center carries out the duties and responsibilities to achieve the goals of IPB, especially to support the achievement of a World Class University and Research Based University.

The Primate Animal Study Center LPPM IPB was established based on the Rector’s Decree No. 080/C/1990 on July 28, 1990, to achieve the noble desire and shared concern for the following strategic conditions:

Indonesian primates consisting of 35 species (now estimated to be 40 species) with various types of habitats have helped make Indonesia the country with the second highest level of biodiversity in the world.

Indonesian primates have become a flag-species in national conservation movements and an umbrella for bioregional conservation.
Thanks to their phylogenetic similarities, Indonesian primates have proven and have bright prospects as laboratory animals/model animals in national and international biomedical research programs for human welfare.
The diversity of primates and their ecosystems has made an extraordinary contribution to the development of comparative studies in biology, life science, anthropology and medicine as well as environmental quality.
IPB’s ability in developing human resources, science and technology and policies based on primatology research will also become a milestone for moral strength and national competitiveness in the conservation of primates, improving the quality of life and state income and human welfare.

Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Center (SBRC)

Surfactant and Bioenergy Research Center (SBRC) is one of the research centers under IPB University. Surfactant development research consists of processing research and technology development, followed by product applications in various industries. Bioenergy development research contains integrated research activities from upstream to downstream. These activities include bioenergy processing and technology, bioenergy business institutional development models, and studies on the sustainability of bioenergy development in Indonesia which include environmental, social and economic aspects.

Bioenergy that is currently promising to be developed is micro/macroalgae as an alternative environmentally friendly biofuel raw material. In addition, SBRC is also engaged in biomass and bioproducts. Research and development in this field includes biomaterial technology, bioadditives, new biochemicals and green biorefinery.

Over the past decade, SBRC, IPB University has extensive experience in collaborating with international partners including collaborations with FAO Rome in 2012-2013, Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry (CRIEPI) in 2011-2012 and 2014-2015, Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIIST-POSCO, South Korea) in 2011-2013.
