The duties of the LRI Maritime, Marine and Fisheries are to plan, strengthen and develop, initiate cooperation and coordinate and manage research administration, community service and non-degree training related to global issues and local issues that can be raised to a global context in the field of maritime, marine and fisheries including but not limited to coastal and marine resource management, marine and fisheries governance, aquatic biodiversity, marine and fisheries biotechnology, maritime diplomacy, maritime logistics, marine and fisheries, and archipelagic sciences.

Center for Coastal Marine Resources Studies (CCMRS)
PKSPL IPB is a merger of the Marine Science Study Center (PSIK) which is under the management of the Faculty of Fisheries of IPB and the Coastal Area Management Program which at that time was still under the coordination of the Environmental Research Center of the IPB Research Institute (PPLH LP IPB) based on the Decree of the Rector of IPB No. 080 / Um / 1996 dated August 21, 1996. The PSIK of the Faculty of Fisheries of IPB which is located in Ancol Jakarta has been widely used for research activities by teaching staff and students whose management has been determined by the Decree of the Rector Number: 106 / C / 1988 dated September 30, 1988.
In line with the development of the fisheries sector at that time, the function and role of the laboratory were developed into a Center. In order to organize IPB, on November 19, 2001, the Center for Marine Commodity Resources Studies LP IPB merged with PKSPL IPB to become the Center for Coastal and Tropical Ocean Studies (PSPLT) in accordance with the Decree of the Rector of IPB Number 184/K.13.12.1/OT/2001.
Based on the results of the arrangement of centers within the IPB Institute for Research and Community Empowerment, PSPLT returned to being PKSPL in accordance with the Decree of the Rector of IPB Number 061/K13/OT/2005 dated June 2, 2005.
