Nature Forum 2025: Prof. Drajat Martianto Encourages Innovation and Technology in National Food Security

Nusantara TV once again held Nusantara Sustainability Trend (Nature), a strategic forum that discusses important issues related to sustainable development in Indonesia. This year, Nature raised the topic of food and energy in a forum entitled “Fostering Sustainable Growth”, with the main focus on the food and energy sectors. This activity was held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and broadcasted live on the Nusantara TV channel.

The event was opened with remarks from the President Director of Nusantara TV, who said that food is the most elementary matter that is the responsibility of the government in order to realize a better nation. In his remarks, the Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaeman, S.H., M.A., also emphasized that the main objective of the transmigration program is to create superior Indonesian human resources to support national economic growth.

In this forum, Prof. Dr. Ir. Drajat Martianto, M.Sc., as the Head of the International Research Institute for Food, Nutrition, and Health, IPB University, was present as one of the main speakers. He presented material on the topic “Encouraging Sustainable Food Production and Recommendations for Food System Transformation in Indonesia.”

In addition to Prof. Drajat, this forum also presented a number of other speakers, including:

  • Andriko Noto Susanto, S.P., M.P., Deputy for Consumption Diversification and Food Security, National Food Agency,
  • Britania Sari, Sustainable Agriculture and Food Practitioner and Founder of Akarintis,
  • Ahmad Juwaini, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Dompet Dhuafa Foundation.

In his presentation, Prof. Drajat emphasized the importance of cross-sector collaboration to create a resilient, inclusive, and environmentally friendly food system. He highlighted the importance of thorough preparation in the Food and Nutrition Fulfillment program or commonly referred to as Free Nutritious Meals (MBG), including a balance of nutritional content and good food safety standards.

Meanwhile, Britania Sari conveyed the need for government regulations to encourage food diversification. He emphasized that people’s food consumption should not depend only on rice, but rather need to adopt a more diverse diet.

Dr. Andriko Noto Susanto highlighted the importance of food security through increasing domestic production and efforts to maintain the sustainability of farmers. In line with this, Prof. Drajat added that agricultural technology must be used wisely. Smart farming, according to him, needs to be applied to certain clusters, and the approach to farmers must be adjusted to the characteristics of each region.

The dynamic discussion resulted in various strategic recommendations, including the need for innovation in the food supply chain, support for research-based policies, and strengthening the role of civil society. This year’s Nature Forum is an important forum for building synergy between the government, academics, business actors, and the community in realizing sustainable growth in Indonesia, especially in the field of food and nutrition for all levels of society.
